Last Sunday we celebrated the Ascension of the Lord where Jesus farewelled the disciples, 40 days after his resurrection. And this Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. This is where the disciples are visited by the Holy Spirit and sent out to spread the good news of Jesus’ teachings. An incredible task in the aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus in Roman controlled Judea.
Well, what a fortnight it was at Corpus Christi. Starting with our wonderful Year 12 Extension Maths students taking out the Regional Final in the Maths Competition at ANU (Australian National University) in Canberra. The school Athletics Carnival was another highlight, as was the Year 11 Leadership Day. On Wednesday night we had the Year 10 Subject Selection Information Evening.
Last Saturday, saw a group of Corpus students volunteer their time by attending St Mary’s Star of the Sea, to make up packs for new mothers in disadvantaged countries. I thank these students and Mrs Morrisey for representing Corpus Christi so well. On Wednesday we had Bishop Brian onsite to meet our Year 12 students and leaders. Not all Bishops take the time to visit their schools and spend time with the students.
We also had the school photos and the petition that arose as a result. It was extremely disappointing. With hindsight perhaps more notice should have been given that we were simply following the school uniform rules and that we have a backup day for absentees and corrections. A number of parents contacted me by email or phone to discuss their child’s circumstances and I tried to return all inquiries personally.
I also thank those parents, staff and students who offered their support as the content of comments in the petition turned and became offensive. I am sure that you are part of the silent majority who did not support the petition.
I welcome hearing parent voice in the constructive building up of the school and always have done. So, I thank those parents who sent well-constructed and thought out opinions. We need to work together.
Corpus Christi is a good school and one that I wish to make better. We need to start with getting the little things right. Families apply for a position here because of what we stand for and our standards and our good reputation in the community.
And of course, we move into winter and long nights and short days. Wishing all a wonderful weekend.
God bless
Mr Wayne Marshall
Principal
To be Ready to Learn, students should ensure the following:
- Self: This means being on time, prepared, in the correct uniform, and taking care of your personal needs during breaks.
- Others: Show respect by greeting staff appropriately, treating everyone with dignity, being inclusive, following instructions, and not disrupting others' learning.
- Learning: Come prepared with all necessary equipment, a charged laptop, and no visible phone or headphones. You should have completed previous tasks, catch up on any missed work, actively seek help when needed, and be committed to staying in the learning space unless absolutely necessary.
- Environment: This includes lining up quietly, entering the classroom calmly, using school equipment properly without damage, and staying in your seat unless otherwise directed.
By consistently upholding these standards, you'll develop important qualities like ownership, curiosity, empathy, courage, and reflectiveness.

Year 10 Learn About the Sacrament of Marriage – With a Wedding!
This week, our Year 10 Religious Education students brought their learning to life by hosting their very own wedding ceremony in class! As part of their unit on the Sacrament of Marriage, students explored the significance, symbolism, and sacred nature of this sacrament in the Catholic tradition.
To deepen their understanding, students took on roles such as bride, groom, priest, witnesses, and guests, recreating a Catholic wedding ceremony. The activity allowed them to engage with the structure and meaning of the rite in a fun, hands-on way, while also sparking thoughtful discussion around commitment, love, and the role of faith in lifelong partnerships.
The lesson was both educational and entertaining, and a memorable way for students to reflect on the values underpinning the Sacrament of Marriage.

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal Term 2 Initiative
As followers of Christ, we are challenged to make a preferential option for the poor as it is important to create conditions for marginalised voices to be heard, to defend the defenceless, and to assess lifestyles, policies and social institutions in terms of their impact on the poor. The St Vincent de Paul Society is committed to actively and passionately speaking out against the causes of poverty and inequality on behalf of the people we serve. Please watch the video attached on the excellent work St Vincent de Paul does in the community.
In term two each House is asked to donate items to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
- Items that the students from Ingham, Chisholm, Davis and Deane could bring in include: Beanies, Scarves, Socks, Gloves or Blankets and Jumpers.
- Senior students are to donate hygiene items for the Social Justice Committee to organise hygiene packs.
Students are to place their items for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal in their learning circle baskets.
Thank you for supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.

HSC Minimum Standards Testing Update
Most students in Year 10 have now sat the HSC Minimum Standard tests for Reading, Writing and Numeracy. All students who have sat the tests should now have their results, with the exception of students who sat the Writing test at a later date, as these take several weeks to be marked and returned.
Results for the HSC Minimum Standards tests have been sent to students via their Students Online account. Students have been advised on how to activate their account. When viewing results, the HSC Minimum Standard is Level 3 (so Level 3 or above is needed to meet the standard). If any students are having trouble activating their account, they are welcome to email me and I will catch up with them during Learning Circle and help them.
For students who have yet to sit one or more of the tests, catch-up sessions will continue throughout the term.
If a student sat a test but did not meet the minimum standard, there will be a second opportunity to meet the standard towards the end of this term. Further details will be communicated via Compass in the coming weeks.
There will also be an information session for students addressing common issues with the Writing responses and how to maximise the chance of meeting the standard during subsequent attempts. Again, details will be communicated via Compass.
In addition to this, there will be further opportunities in Semester 2 as required.
If you have any questions about the HSC Minimum Standards, please feel free to contact me on dysonc01@dow.catholic.edu.au

Transition and Pathway Program (TaPP)
2026 Stage 6 Subject Selection
Stage 6 subject selection is an important decision, and choosing subjects that maximize options is a smart strategy. While it may be tempting to pick subjects based solely on what seems easiest or most familiar, it is essential to consider future goals - whether that involves university, TAFE, an apprenticeship, or entering the workforce. Selected subjects should keep multiple pathways open, allowing flexibility as interests and plans evolve. A range of resources is available on the TaPS Google Classroom, including this helpful Subject Selection Calculator from the team at Study Work Grow.
Step Into Teaching (SUIT) Program
Congratulations Alanna Spooner, Year 12 on your unconditional entry to ACU. We are very proud of you!
Over last year and the beginning of this year I attended the ACU Step Up Into Teaching (SUIT) program at the Strathfield campus. I spent 10 intensive days sitting in lectures and attending tutorials learning about how children learn. I have now successfully completed 2 units of my first year of my primary education degree. Since completing those two units I now have unconditional entry into my university course. I’m so grateful for the opportunities the Wollongong Diocese and Mrs Smith for her guidance in attaining this scholarship and setting me up for my future after graduation.
Apprenticeship News
Congratulations to Harrison Bailey on securing your Apprenticeship with Leveltec Electrical & Communications. We are incredibly proud of your achievement and wish you all the best for your future career.
Work Experience 2025
Work Experience offers students short-term placements across various industries, helping them gain valuable insights into the world of work and explore potential career paths.
Year 10: All students will have the opportunity to participate in work experience during Term 4.
Years 11 & 12: Students are invited to apply for work experience, but they must ensure it does not interfere with assessments or essential coursework.
For the 2025 Work Experience Guidelines please email Smitht19@dow.catholic.edu.au
Important Note: Work experience is different from work placements, which are a mandatory part of VET courses. For any inquiries regarding TVET, EVET, or SBATs, please contact Mrs. Kellyanne Wynen, VET Coordinator.

National Sorry Day 2025
National Sorry Day is held annually on 26 May in Australia. This event is to acknowledge and remember the Stolen Generations and as an important matter of truth telling. This day is to acknowledge past injustices and mistreatment endured by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is a day to reflect, remember and reconcile as a nation. May this day bring healing and the true spirit of reconciliation.
Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated from 27th May – 3rd June each year. The theme for NRW 2025 is "Bridging Now to Next," which emphasizes the ongoing connection between the past, present, and future in the reconciliation journey. This theme encourages all Australians to look ahead, learn from the past, and continue pushing forward together.
This year at Corpus Christi students in Year 9 PDHPE created hands with messages of Peace, Hope, Justice, Freedom, Solidarity and Unity for the Sea of Hands that is displayed in the school garden. Thank you to all the students who have added to the Sea of Hands through the many years this has been displayed at school. Thank you to the students who installed the Sea of Hands.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their friends enjoyed an excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW, Yirabana Aboriginal Art Gallery and many more exhibitions throughout the gallery. Students were immersed in beautiful, amazing and thought-provoking art. Students and staff enjoyed lunch in the Domain Garden. Thank you to all the students and staff who attended and to all the staff who made this wonderful excursion possible.
Colour-in in the LRC was a fun activity provided by Mrs Abdelmessih and Mrs Elliss. Students were able to create a hand for the Sea of Hands or colour in a Reconciliation Week 2025 stencil. Students did great work, well done and thank you to all the students who participated.
Thank you to Sam Mongta for playing the didgeridoo (Yidaki) so amazingly at the Ingham Showcase. Thank you to Ingham House and Noah Coopes for the talk on this year's Reconciliation Week 2025 theme at Showcase.

Ms Val West
Aboriginal Education Assistant AEA
On Thursday, 29 May, our Year 12 school leaders hosted a dynamic Leadership Day aimed at developing leadership skills among Year 11 students. This special event provided an invaluable opportunity for students to explore the qualities and skills essential for effective leadership.
Throughout the day, students were introduced to the process of leadership, learning about the steps involved in stepping up as a leader, from building confidence, communication and problem solving. They also gained insight into the different positions and roles the leaders play within the school community and the characteristics that define strong and supportive leaders, such as visibility, integrity, empathy, resilience, and servant leadership.
To put these ideas into practice, Year 11 students participated in nine engaging activities designed to challenge their teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership abilities. These activities encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones and apply what they learned in real-time.
Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many feeling more confident and motivated to pursue leadership opportunities in the future. Leadership Day has not only equipped them with essential skills but also sparked enthusiasm for making a positive impact in the school community.
Students are now in the process of self and peer nominations.

“Every child, every day, no matter what, deserves to feel loved, safe, and hopeful.”
Rachel Clancy
This year, Year 11 Students have voted to support the organisation ‘Hope in a suitcase’.
Hope in a Suitcase was established in 2018 by Rachael Clancy, a foster carer who recognised the need for children to have their belongings when entering care. Operating across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania, the organisation has distributed thousands of suitcases to children in out-of-home care, ensuring they feel valued and supported.
The organisation relies entirely on volunteers and community donations. If you would like to donate an item, we would greatly appreciate your support. We are aiming to donate 18 suitcases this year.
Please hand items into the school office before Corpus Christi Day
Many thanks

If you require second-hand uniforms there is a Corpus Christi Oak Flats Uniform Pool page on Facebook. This is not run by the school but feel free to check it out for any uniform needs.

We have an increasing number of students presenting to the office to sign out with no note in Compass for them to leave. If you require your child to leave early for a planned appointment or other reason this should be entered in Compass before the departure day and time. If there is a note in Compass the student can come down and sign out through the office.
If you are unable to access Compass a parent or nominated emergency contact will need to come in and sign your child out.
Unwell Students
Information for Illness/Misadventure for assessments or tasks is in your child's Compass.
Student ID Cards
Please remind your child to have their Student ID Card at school everyday.

Students Exiting the School in the Afternoon
Due to safety concerns, students are not to exit the school grounds in the afternoon through the glass foyer. All students are required to use the walking path around to the drop-off bay or Moore Street exit. The only exceptions are any disabled students or students with an injury.
Traffic Movement, Parking and Afternoon Student Pick-up
A reminder to parents about double-parking and blocking traffic flow before and after school. This INCLUDES ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. Cars are to keep moving through the kiss and drop area. If there are no spots available. Please do not stop and block the traffic flow.
Please be aware that hefty fines apply for these offenses and consideration of the local businesses and the safety of students is paramount.
Senior students and families are reminded to follow the rules when parking near and around the school grounds and to be considerate of the neighbours.
