National Sorry Day 2025
National Sorry Day is held annually on 26 May in Australia. This event is to acknowledge and remember the Stolen Generations and as an important matter of truth telling. This day is to acknowledge past injustices and mistreatment endured by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is a day to reflect, remember and reconcile as a nation. May this day bring healing and the true spirit of reconciliation.
Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated from 27th May – 3rd June each year. The theme for NRW 2025 is "Bridging Now to Next," which emphasizes the ongoing connection between the past, present, and future in the reconciliation journey. This theme encourages all Australians to look ahead, learn from the past, and continue pushing forward together.
This year at Corpus Christi students in Year 9 PDHPE created hands with messages of Peace, Hope, Justice, Freedom, Solidarity and Unity for the Sea of Hands that is displayed in the school garden. Thank you to all the students who have added to the Sea of Hands through the many years this has been displayed at school. Thank you to the students who installed the Sea of Hands.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their friends enjoyed an excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW, Yirabana Aboriginal Art Gallery and many more exhibitions throughout the gallery. Students were immersed in beautiful, amazing and thought-provoking art. Students and staff enjoyed lunch in the Domain Garden. Thank you to all the students and staff who attended and to all the staff who made this wonderful excursion possible.
Colour-in in the LRC was a fun activity provided by Mrs Abdelmessih and Mrs Elliss. Students were able to create a hand for the Sea of Hands or colour in a Reconciliation Week 2025 stencil. Students did great work, well done and thank you to all the students who participated.
Thank you to Sam Mongta for playing the didgeridoo (Yidaki) so amazingly at the Ingham Showcase. Thank you to Ingham House and Noah Coopes for the talk on this year's Reconciliation Week 2025 theme at Showcase.
