Mid-Year Holiday and Winter Solstice
The winter solstice passes this weekend, hidden under the excitement of State of Origin, the World Test Cricket result, the NRL and the coming end of Term 2. This is the day where the daylight hours are shortest and the nighttime darkness the longest.
In Australia the week prior and the four-week period immediately after this is the coldest time of the year as the water, atmosphere and land halts growth; and then slowly starts to gain more warmth from the sun. So, this cold time is a fitting time to have a few weeks holiday where we can gather strength for the coming period of spring growth.
Similar to the weather, the school year will commence to 'heat' up upon our return to Term 3, with Year 11 moving towards their Preliminary Course Exams and the selection of the new School Leaders for 2026.
The Year 12 group encounter the HSC Trial exams and then have a period of focused study leading to several farewell events towards the end of Term. All this leads to them commencing their HSC Exams in Term 4.
For the rest of the students the warmer weather should bring a reflection on the learning gains made this year and a consolidation of this as we move towards the growth from one Year group to another at the Christmas break.
I wish all families a restful and refreshing holiday period spent with family and friends. Next Term commences with the returning to quality learning and teaching.
What a wonderful day Corpus Christi Day was
The celebration of Corpus Christi Day (my first) was all that I was told it was going to be. The social justice activities followed by a very prayerful mass led to the culmination of the day with the carnival and food fair. A big thank you to all Staff who aided to making the day so lovely and to all students on their good behaviour, reverence and spirit.
We Need Some Trials in our Lives
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped of the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.
Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were Life's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. Remember nature needs no help, just no interference. There are processes of life, things we all go through. The struggles are a part of our journey and are preparing us for what awaits. They are preparing us to fly.

The annual Corpus Christi Day is a celebration of not just the school but also a wonderful reminder of the strength and power of community. It was a day filled with meaningful activities that highlighted the importance of coming together to support the community, to celebrate shared values, and to enjoy time together.
One of the key elements of Corpus Christi Day is the focus on social justice and supporting vulnerable groups in our community. As part of our celebration, students and staff were encouraged to engage in charitable efforts aimed at helping those in need. This included the donation of essential goods and raising awareness for local organisations that support the homeless and other marginalised groups. By participating in these efforts, we were reminded of the importance of empathy, kindness, and the role each of us can play in making a positive impact on others.
The school community then came together in a spirit of unity and reflection in the celebration of Mass at Nazareth Catholic Church. Having all the school community together in one space to mark 20 years of Corpus Christi was a special moment in the life of the school. Following this, the tone of the day shifted to one of fun and celebration. The afternoon was filled with exciting rides, games, and food stalls, providing everyone with the chance to relax, unwind, and enjoy the company of friends and staff. Laughter and smiles were in abundance.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first Corpus Christi Day. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the connections within our school community. It was a reminder of the importance of working together, celebrating our shared values, and also enjoying each other’s company.

Community Service Champion Award
Ian Haines is an exceptional student whose unwavering dedication and compassion shine through in all aspects of school life. As a valued member of our community, Ian consistently brings enthusiasm, initiative, and a spirit of generosity to everything he does. His natural leadership is particularly evident in his role as a cadet, where he demonstrates a deep sense of civic responsibility. Bishop Brian Visits Year 12
Last week, our Year 12 students had the distinct pleasure of hosting Bishop Brian. The visit was an inspiring experience, where students had the opportunity to learn about being active members of society through the lens of faith. Bishop Brian shared valuable insights on how faith can guide our actions and decisions, fostering a more compassionate and engaged community.
A highlight of the visit was the small, private lunch held with student leaders, Bishop Brian, and members of the Catholic Education Office (CEO). This intimate setting allowed our student leaders to discuss their aspirations and future goals with the Bishop. The conversation was enriching and provided a unique perspective on leadership and service.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Bishop Brian for his time and wisdom. His visit left a lasting impact on our Year 12 students, encouraging them to integrate faith into their daily lives and future endeavours.
Corpus Christi Day
On Thursday, 12 June, the Corpus Christi High School community joyfully celebrated our Feast Day. The Feast of Corpus Christi Mass served as a significant moment for our school to gather as a Catholic community and reflect on the importance of the Eucharistic celebration.
We began the day with initiatives, where students participated in various social justice and team-building activities, demonstrating our commitment to service and community. We then had a whole-school Mass at All Saints Church in Shellharbour, a meaningful service that highlighted our unity and faith, to start the 20th year of Corpus Christi.
Year 12: These students dedicated their efforts to creating nearly 400 sandwiches for the homeless, showcasing their compassion and dedication to helping those in need.
Year 11: These students started packing bags for foster children with Hope in a Suitcase
Year 10: Students created messages of hope and assembled hygiene packs for youth in juvenile detention.
Deane: Students packed hygiene products for the St. Vinnies Winter Appeal. These essential items will be distributed to local families and the homeless, providing much-needed support during the colder months.
Chisholm: Students created posters to raise awareness about child slavery.
Ingham: Students put together support packs for people affected by domestic violence.
Davis: Students assembled care packs, created bracelets, and helped tidy the school garden.
Continuing the Corpus tradition, our students enjoyed a variety of food and rides at the mini fair. A massive thank you to all the staff involved, from duties, to dunk tanks.
Additionally, a huge thank you to the students and staff who performed in "Bread and Jam" throughout the day. The Staff band, featuring Mr. Batman, Mr. Paul, Mr. Cavanagh and Mr. Ryan, delivered a fantastic final act that closed the festivities on a high note.
A special mention goes to our fantastic food vendors who contributed to the success of our Feast Day celebrations. Amigos provided delicious and hearty meals that were enjoyed by all, while Ken's Cones delighted students with an assortment of refreshing ice cream treats. Dean's Mini Doughnuts were a hit, offering warm, sugary delights that everyone savoured. Steve's Pizza Truck served up mouth-watering pizzas that were a crowd favourite, and Dippin' Dots brought a fun, futuristic twist with their unique ice cream beads. We are incredibly grateful for their participation and the wonderful culinary experiences they provided for our community.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the parents who donated, the students who ran stalls, and especially the administration staff who ensured the day ran smoothly.

A massive congratulations to the students who participated in the workshop with maturity and confidence. Please keep an eye out for upcoming ways to support the elderly.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal Term 2 Initiative
As followers of Christ, we are challenged to make a preferential option for the poor as it is important to create conditions for marginalised voices to be heard, to defend the defenceless, and to assess lifestyles, policies and social institutions in terms of their impact on the poor. The St Vincent de Paul Society is committed to actively and passionately speaking out against the causes of poverty and inequality on behalf of the people we serve. Please watch the video attached on the excellent work St Vincent de Paul does in the community.

Ngununggula Gallery - Year 10 Art
Ms Castles’ Year 10 Visual Arts Elective class travelled to Bowral to visit the Ngununggula Gallery and view the exhibition Tender.
This exhibition showcased the work of seven Australian female painters, each responding to the theme of Tender in unique and powerful ways.
Students were lucky enough to be guided through the exhibition by a very knowledgeable gallery educator, who was particularly impressed by their curiosity and thoughtful engagement with the artworks—some of which were quite abstract and challenging to interpret at first glance.
One of the exhibiting artists was Laura Jones, last year’s Archibald Prize winner. Students were excited to see a collection of her work in person, especially after viewing her winning portrait during the Year 9 overnight trip to Sydney.
Following the gallery tour, students participated in a still life drawing workshop led by artist Lily Cummings. This hands-on session was a highlight, giving students valuable time to develop their drawing skills and learn directly from a practicing artist.
A close second to the art itself was—of course—a quick stop at McDonald’s on the way home to refresh and recharge!
A big thank you to the Year 10 Art class for their openness, enthusiasm, and respectful engagement throughout the excursion, and to Ms Thompson and Ms Lewis for coming along and supporting the day.

STEMC Careers Day – Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators
Recently, Transport for NSW, in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education, hosted the annual STEMC Careers Day - a dynamic event that connected high school students with real-world STEMC professionals and projects shaping the future of transport.
Students explored hands-on exhibits showcasing the latest in virtual reality, drones, and artificial intelligence, gaining insights into how emerging technologies are transforming the industry.
The day featured engaging sessions on career pathways, apprenticeships, and graduate programs, as well as an empowering Women in STEMC Q&A panel, where students heard from industry leaders.
It was a great opportunity for students to engage directly with professionals and be inspired by the exciting possibilities a career in STEMC can offer. Special thanks to Mr Herron and Mr Pjanic for taking our students.
Year 10 UOW Discovery Day
Last Tuesday, Year 10 students had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a university student.
