Dear Parents/ Guardians
HSC Trial Exams
These exams have progressed well throughout the last two weeks. I thank the Year 12 students for being prompt and following the instructions and guidelines of both NESA and the school. It is an important part of preparation for the final HSC Exams in learning the operational side and rules around these exams.
We come to the end of Week 4 and near the midpoint of Term 3. We recognise that our Year 12 students have six weeks of normal school before the holidays and the HSC Exams that follow. We wish them well and walk with them in celebrating their time at Corpus Christi.
I look forward to the graduation events and celebrations at the end of the Term and urge all to work hard in these final weeks. There will be 70,000 students in NSW sitting the 2025 HSC exams and graduating, with our Year 12 students among them.
Do We Notice?
A few weeks ago I went out for a meal at a Lebanese restaurant with some friends and their wives. As happens at these places the dancing commenced after a wonderful meal and I naturally stood back (have you seen me dance!)
On our table another girl was also watching the dancing and cheering others on as they danced and I went over to say hello. She was a relatively short lady and so happy for the happiness of those dancing. We had a chat and I realised that I knew her parents and she was so pleased to be there.
As we talked, she revealed her disability about her capacity to move freely and her love of others being able to dance. Her joy in watching others enjoy themselves was truly uplifting. After a time, she had other friends come over and I moved off. As I said to her how much I enjoyed our chat she said to me – ‘thank you for noticing me, most people don’t’.
Most people don’t. I was a bit stunned and taken aback and the reason it comes back to me now is that it reminded me of the Covid lockdown, where I read of the isolation that so many Australians were feeling in the lockdown period. Unable to visit sick relatives in hospital or homes. Unable to cross into GLA’s of concern and visit family (like me). A forced separation of loved ones, sometimes overseas and unable to come ‘home’.
But Covid is over, and I still feel a sense that many are still in lockdown mode, making choices to remain insular or singular.
I ask that we all look to our neighbour, friends, classmates or whomever that may be in a position of loneliness. YOU can make a huge difference to someone by reaching out to them, offering a conversation, or a smile, or a chance to be listened to. Make it a goal that before the end of this Term, there is a someone that has been uplifted because of your actions. They are worth it, but more importantly – YOU ARE WORTH IT.
God bless
Mr Wayne Marshall

Changes to Social Media
Kirra Pendergast founded ‘Safe on Social’ with the purpose ‘to protect people in a digital world that wasn’t designed with their safety in mind’. The resources on her website can assist with an array of issues or concerns that you may be managing in this environment - https://www.safeonsocial.com/. I recently read one of her articles titled "Preparing Teens for Under-16 Social Media Ban" about the upcoming changes to social media that will impact a significant group of our students and, by default, parents and carers. The article guides parents and carers to help young people navigate the upcoming legislation that will restrict social media access for users under 16. This law, effective by the end of 2025, aims to mitigate online harms affecting young people. The key points from the article have been summarised below, or you can read the article for yourself at:
Key takeaways to consider:
- Age Verification Implementation: Major platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube will require age-verification measures to restrict access for users under 16.
- Preparation is Crucial: Without proper preparation, teens risk losing access to connections, content, or communities they value, potentially leading to feelings of isolation.
- Actionable Steps for Parents and Carers:
- Map Their Online World: Engage teens in identifying the platforms, chats, groups, or creators they interact with regularly.
- Create Safe, Private Chat Alternatives: Establish group chats on age-appropriate platforms with parental visibility and set ground rules for respectful use.
- Back Up Digital Memories: Encourage teens to download or screenshot meaningful content to preserve digital memories.
- Follow Creators Safely Off-Platform: Help teens find alternative ways to engage with supportive influencers or content creators.
- Set Up a Family Re-Entry Plan: Discuss readiness for re-entry at 16, focusing on emotional maturity, digital literacy, and privacy skills.
- Create a Safe Space to Speak Up: Foster an open-door culture at home where teens feel comfortable discussing their online experiences.
- Focus on Offline Self-Worth: Encourage offline activities that build confidence, creativity, and purpose.
- Support for Neurodivergent Teens: Recognise that neurodivergent teens may have unique needs and attachments to online spaces, and provide tailored support accordingly.
As educators, we firmly believe that being prepared and having the right knowledge can and does assist us all in this space. I hope the article supports you in navigating this space as we move towards this change.

The Assumption of Mary
On 15 August, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. The Assumption commemorates the belief that when Mary died, rather than going through the natural process of physical decay on Earth, both her soul and body were taken to Heaven, to be with her Son, Jesus.
It’s speculated that this could have been possible because she didn’t suffer from Original Sin, as stated in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This can be further confirmed as there is no relic of Mary’s body in existence, and no one has ever claimed to have found one.
“There Mary is surprisingly portrayed as falling, as if she were definitively letting go of all the trials and sufferings of this life and allowing herself to fall asleep. Indeed, she is letting go of life itself as she passes from this world to the next. It is just at this moment of abandoning herself into the Father’s hands that the angels rush down to catch her and bring her up to Heaven.” – Depiction of the end of Mary’s life, found on one of the main doors of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
The Assumption was formally seen as a defined dogma of the Catholic Church in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. “By the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.´
In Revelation 12:1 it says, “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” This is the image depicted on the Miraculous Medal of Mary.
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
Year 8 Emmaus Walk
Year 8 will participate in the Emmaus Walk, a Pastoral and Spiritual Formation Programme, which takes on the coastal track between Minnamurra and Surf Beach, Kiama. The Emmaus Walk is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a prayer at Minnamurra. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers. The students will participate in four spiritual activities on the day. Through the formational process, each student’s individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed.
The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and encourage students to demonstrate Christian actions in their homes, churches and communities. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
Students will be informed about this more in their Catholic Studies Lessons.

ARE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC? All Saints has a process of welcoming people who are not Catholic into full communion with the Church. The process is called RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Each year the parish of All Saints offers support to those who wish to learn more about our faith. This year, beginning in September, a new group will begin this process. If you are interested in knowing more, please talk to Fr Hung after Mass or phone the Parish Office, leave your details and the RCIA Co-Ordinator will contact you.
Celebrating the Canonisation of Carlo Acutis
This September, we’ll be marking a special moment in the life of the Church — the canonisation of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who will be recognised as the first millennial saint. In celebration, our school will host an afternoon event dedicated to Carlo’s life, faith, and example. Students will have the chance to revel in the “millennial” side of his story, discovering how his love for God, technology, and service continues to inspire young people today.
Keep an eye on Compass for more details — you won’t want to miss it!

Book Orders: We’re Going Back to Basics
Over the past two years, we have trialled an online system for ordering students’ learning resources using MyConnect2. While it offered some benefits, feedback from parents, students, and staff showed that our previous process works better for our community.
From next year, the school will purchase resources on your behalf, and the cost will be included in your school fees. This approach offers:
- Easier access for all families
- Better value for money
- Reliable supply and delivery
Thank you for your support and feedback. It has been invaluable in guiding this decision.
Congratulations Year 12
Congratulations to our Year 12 students on completing their Trial HSC Examinations. We have been impressed with their preparedness, focus, and commitment throughout this period. We wish them all the very best as they enter their final weeks of study in preparation for the HSC.
Year 11 End of Year Exams
A reminder that Year 11 end-of-year exams will be held from 8 September to 19 September (Week 8–9). Attached is the full timetable, which includes all essential details regarding dates, times, and exam procedures. Please take some time to review it with your young person to help them plan their study and attendance.
We encourage you to support them in organising their study schedule and maintaining focus during this important time. If additional assistance is needed, please don’t hesitate to contact their Learning Advisors. We wish all our Year 11 students the very best for their exams.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Anti-Bullying Week at Corpus Christi
This week, we joined schools across Australia in recognising Anti-Bullying Week - a time to stand together, promote kindness, and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe and respectful school environment for all students.
As part of our activities, all students took part in the KidsHelpline “Largest Anti-Bullying Lesson” for high school students. This lesson explored the impacts of bullying, ways to respond effectively, and how to be an upstander rather than a bystander.
In addition, our Wellbeing Team developed lessons to be delivered during Extended Learning Circle on Thursday. These sessions were designed to help students:
- Understand what bullying is (and what it is not)
- Recognise the signs of bullying in themselves and others
- Practise respectful communication and conflict resolution
- Learn strategies for seeking help and supporting peers
What is Bullying?
Bullying is repeated, intentional behaviour by one or more people that causes physical, social, or psychological harm. It involves an imbalance of power, where the person being targeted feels unable to stop the behaviour.
Bullying can be:
- Verbal: name-calling, insults, teasing, intimidation
- Physical: hitting, pushing, damaging property
- Social/Relational: excluding someone, spreading rumours, encouraging others to reject someone
- Online (Cyberbullying): hurtful or threatening messages, sharing private images, excluding others from online groups
What Bullying is Not
Not all conflict, disagreements, or mean behaviour is bullying. Bullying is not:
- A single argument or fight between friends
- A one-off act of rudeness or unkindness
- Disliking someone or choosing not to be friends (unless part of repeated exclusion or social harm)
How Parents Can Support Their Child
If you believe your child is experiencing bullying or harassment:
- Listen and reassure - create a safe space for your child to talk.
- Acknowledge their feelings - let them know it’s not their fault.
- Gather details - when, where, who, and what happened.
- Encourage positive action - discuss safe ways to respond, such as speaking up, avoiding unsafe situations, or seeking help.
- Contact the school - early communication helps us address concerns quickly and appropriately.
- Seek additional support - KidsHelpline (1800 55 1800), eSafety Commissioner, or local youth services can provide guidance.
Together, we can create a culture where respect, kindness, and empathy are the norm – and where bullying has no place.

Australian Geography Competition
Geography Students Excel in Australian Geography Competition
Geography students from Corpus Christi recently tested their geographical skills and knowledge against peers from across the country in the 2025 Australian Geography Competition.
This year, 23 of our students participated, with several achieving outstanding results. Jacob Foster was placed in the top 1% of students in his year level nationally, an exceptional achievement. Amara Garbayo Vergan was awarded a High Distinction, and three other students received Credit awards.
With over 54,000 students from 600 schools participating across Australia, the Competition provides a valuable external benchmark for assessing our students’ geographical understanding and skills.
Rachel Honey, the Competition’s national coordinator, explained, “The Competition aims to encourage student interest in geography and to reward student excellence. Geography is such an important subject because it develops in students a holistic understanding of the world around them, and their place in it.”
The Australian Geography Competition is a joint initiative of the Australian Geography Teachers’ Association and the Royal Geographical Society of Queensland. It is supported by the Australian Department of Education, the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, and Flinders University.
Corpus Christi proudly enters this competition each year, and we look forward to even greater student participation in 2026.

National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
This day is on the 4 August each year and is to reflect on the human right of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children: their rights to be educated, cared for, protected and practice their culture.
For National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day the school acquired a very special book titled Gadi Mirrabooka Australian Aboriginal Tales from the Dreaming. This wonderful book has Dreaming Stories from throughout Australia including South Coast NSW. This book is so important because the Dreaming stories are retold by respected Elders Aunty Pauline E McLeod, Aunty Francis Firebrace Jones and Aunty June E Barker. Students can loan this book from the LRC. Another wonderful book in the LRC is Dharawal Words, Phrases and Activities by Dr Jodi Edwards. There are many great books by Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander authors and people in the LRC. Thank you to the LRC staff Mrs Abdelmessih and Mrs Elliss for acquiring these wonderful books for our school.
Yabun Gali Dance Group
This has been a busy start to term 3 with three events for Yabun Gali Dance Group students. In week 1 students performed their amazing and beautiful Aboriginal dances at St Joseph’s Catholic High School NAIDOC Assembly. The students danced with students from St Joseph’s in a collaborative combined school dance. The second dances the students did were at St Therese Catholic Primary School. The students were confident and proud to showcase Aboriginal culture. Dance is an important way of story telling and keeping traditions alive and thriving for future Generations. Yabun Gali Dance Group students then showcased their Aboriginal dances at Holy Cross Catholic Primary School for their NAIDOC celebrations and then taught the younger students their dances. It was a fun and educational day for all students. The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week is Next Generation – Strength Vision and Legacy, these students represented Corpus Christi proudly and confidently and upheld the theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week. Thank you to all the Yabun Gali Dance Group students. This year we farewell , thank and congratulate our Year 10 and Year 12 students Taleah Reid, Indy Amatto, Makenzie Killmore, Kaleb Berriman and Lachlan Muller.

Pop Up Podcast Workshop
The Pop Up Podcast Workshop was an excellent learning experience for our students, giving them the opportunity to plan and produce their own podcasts from scratch. As students are often asked to create podcasts in subjects such as English, the workshop was not only engaging but also highly practical and relevant to their learning. Stephanie, who facilitated the workshop, brought extensive industry experience and a wealth of knowledge, connecting effortlessly with students through her approachable and engaging style. Her expertise made the day both fun and educational. As one student put it, “This was the best day ever – I learnt so much!”

Transport for NSW
The Transport for NSW Infrastructure Industry Workshop held at the Russell Vale depot was an inspiring event aimed at encouraging female students to explore careers in non-traditional trades. During the workshop, students had the unique opportunity to learn about various aspects of infrastructure work, including bridges, line marking, mechanics, pedestrian crossings, and traffic lights. This hands-on experience provided valuable insight into the diverse roles within the transport industry and highlighted the exciting pathways available for women interested in these dynamic and essential trades.
Float Your Boat
The Float Your Boat program is making waves! Year 10 student Peleh had an exciting opportunity to explore career pathways with the Water Police, gaining firsthand insight into this vital role on the water. In addition, Peleh participated in an industry tour of Blue Scope and attended the Sydney Boat Show, further expanding his understanding of maritime and industrial careers. This fantastic program, facilitated by RIEP, continues to open doors and inspire students to consider diverse and rewarding career options.

Stage 6 EVET Applications
Are you a year 10 student thinking about your pattern of study? Now's the time to explore your options with an EVET course for next year!
See Mrs. Wynen in The Vine Cafe during learning circle to express your interest and get an application form.
Don't wait—applications close on September 10th!
Year 10 Work Experience Week
All Year 10 students will be undertaking work experience from December 8th to 12th. More details will be provided soon, but students are encouraged to start thinking about potential placements. It doesn’t need to be their “forever” job - just somewhere that sparks their interest. Volunteering for the week is also a valuable option to consider. Last year, students gained experience at a variety of places, including the council library, childcare centres, primary schools, aged care facilities, hotels, veterinary clinics, law firms, and we even had students try beekeeping.
Work Experience at the Australian Maritime Safety Authority
Recently, Year 10 student Jade Markovski enjoyed an incredible week of work experience at AMSA, where she explored a diverse range of roles, including Marine Safety Inspector, Port Marine Surveyor, Naval Architect, Communications and Media, and Safety Liaison. Highlights of her placement included attending both face-to-face and online Seafarer examinations, inspecting Domestic Commercial Vessels in Sydney Harbour, conducting safety observations on the Manly Ferry, and joining a Port State Control inspection aboard a large container ship in Port Botany. This valuable experience opened her eyes to the many exciting career opportunities in the maritime industry, especially for women. Well done Jade!

On Wednesday, 1st August, the COLA was transformed into a vibrant marketplace as our Year 10 Food Technology students hosted their much-anticipated Market Day. This exciting event marked the culmination of their Food Service and Catering unit, where students applied their skills in a real-world context—developing, managing, and operating their own small food businesses.
The day was a celebration of culinary creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. Students worked in teams to plan, prepare and sell a range of delicious food products, from sweet treats to savoury favourites. The diverse range of offerings reflected not only their culinary talents but also thoughtful planning, market research, and smart business decisions.
More than just a food fair, Market Day was a formal assessment designed to immerse students in the realities of the food service and catering industry. Each team was required to create a business plan, set a budget, develop a pricing strategy, and promote their stall—all while ensuring food safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. In doing so, students gained firsthand insight into how catering ventures operate and contribute to both food provision and employment in the broader industry.
Importantly, profits from the day—over $1800—were proudly donated to St Vincent de Paul, supporting people in need and reinforcing the value of giving back to the community.
The success of Market Day was a testament to the hard work, teamwork, and passion of the Year 10 students and the support of staff and students. Congratulations to all involved!

ICAS Results and Certificates
All assessments will be conducted online, at school. We will notify you of the date(s) that we will run ICAS assessments, and when your child’s ICAS results are ready. Your child’s ICAS certificates will be delivered to school. Once we have received them, we will present them to your child to bring home. The back of the certificate will show your child’s ICAS results and the login details, “TAP ID and Pin”. - Use these to enter the Results Portal orti.icasassessments.com/ortiStudent.
We are excited to be offering ICAS to our students this year and look forward to celebrating their achievements. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if you have any questions.

Administration and Attendance - Late and Unwell Students
We have an increasing number of students presenting to the office to sign out with no note in Compass for them to leave. If you require your child to leave early for a planned appointment or other reason this should be entered in Compass before the departure day and time. If there is a note in Compass the student can come down and sign out through the office.
If you are unable to access Compass a parent or nominated emergency contact will need to come in and sign your child out.
Unwell Students
Information for Illness/Misadventure for assessments or tasks is in your child's Compass.
Student ID Cards
Please remind your child to have their Student ID Card at school everyday.

Office Administration Team

Students Returning to School with an Injury
A reminder to families that if your child is returning to school with an injury you need to contact the school before their return to arrange a return to school with injury meeting. This will enable us to put any measures in place to assist with this return.
Students who are required to use the lift must have a medical reentry meeting and can only use the lift once a 'Lift License' has been issued to them.
Traffic Movement, Parking and Afternoon Student Pick-up
A reminder to parents about double-parking and blocking traffic flow before and after school. This INCLUDES ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. Cars are to keep moving through the kiss and drop area. If there are no spots available. Please do not stop and block the traffic flow.
Please be aware that hefty fines apply for these offences and consideration of the local businesses and the safety of students is paramount.
Senior students and families are reminded to follow the rules when parking near and around the school grounds and to be considerate of the neighbours.
Students Exiting the School in the Afternoon
Due to safety concerns, students are not to exit the school grounds in the afternoon through the glass foyer. All students are required to use the walking path around to the drop-off bay or Moore Street exit. The only exceptions are any disabled students or students with an injury.
