Year 10 Market Stall Day
On Wednesday, 1st August, the COLA was transformed into a vibrant marketplace as our Year 10 Food Technology students hosted their much-anticipated Market Day. This exciting event marked the culmination of their Food Service and Catering unit, where students applied their skills in a real-world context—developing, managing, and operating their own small food businesses.
The day was a celebration of culinary creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. Students worked in teams to plan, prepare and sell a range of delicious food products, from sweet treats to savoury favourites. The diverse range of offerings reflected not only their culinary talents but also thoughtful planning, market research, and smart business decisions.
More than just a food fair, Market Day was a formal assessment designed to immerse students in the realities of the food service and catering industry. Each team was required to create a business plan, set a budget, develop a pricing strategy, and promote their stall—all while ensuring food safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. In doing so, students gained firsthand insight into how catering ventures operate and contribute to both food provision and employment in the broader industry.
Importantly, profits from the day—over $1800—were proudly donated to St Vincent de Paul, supporting people in need and reinforcing the value of giving back to the community.
The success of Market Day was a testament to the hard work, teamwork, and passion of the Year 10 students and the support of staff and students. Congratulations to all involved!
