Australian Geography Competition

Geography Students Excel in Australian Geography Competition

Geography students from Corpus Christi recently tested their geographical skills and knowledge against peers from across the country in the 2025 Australian Geography Competition.

This year, 23 of our students participated, with several achieving outstanding results. Jacob Foster was placed in the top 1% of students in his year level nationally,  an exceptional achievement. Amara Garbayo Vergan was awarded a High Distinction, and three other students received Credit awards.

With over 54,000 students from 600 schools participating across Australia, the Competition provides a valuable external benchmark for assessing our students’ geographical understanding and skills.

Rachel Honey, the Competition’s national coordinator, explained, “The Competition aims to encourage student interest in geography and to reward student excellence. Geography is such an important subject because it develops in students a holistic understanding of the world around them, and their place in it.”

The Australian Geography Competition is a joint initiative of the Australian Geography Teachers’ Association and the Royal Geographical Society of Queensland. It is supported by the Australian Department of Education, the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, and Flinders University.

Corpus Christi proudly enters this competition each year, and we look forward to even greater student participation in 2026.
