Dear Parents/ Guardians
Where the Hell is God?
Some time ago I attended a presentation by Fr Richard Leonard, a Jesuit Priest. I was recently reminded of his book "Where the hell is God?’ The book looks at the question of where God is in our lives in the tough times and indeed, why he has let them happen in the first place. Famines, droughts, infant death, war and the pain and suffering for our elderly are things that people often question as to - why does God allow these things to happen?
The book was written as a response to Fr Richards’s reflections on how he, and his family, has responded to the crisis of his then 28-year-old sister becoming a quadriplegic. His sister, who as a trained nurse, and who spent more than three years as a volunteer working in Calcutta with Mother Theresa in the Hospital of the Dying and then later in the Northern Territory in a remote aboriginal settlement. He asked where was God in this situation? How could God let this happen to such person? Why her?
In our lives we have experiences that challenge our thinking and shift our balance of thought, they leave an entrenched feeling that our previous 'way' was not quite enough or was out of sync.
In essence, these experiences change us and challenge our core beliefs.
It might be good to read Harry Potter or other books for entertainment but I recommend that we also search for some literature that challenges our thinking. This book leads us through an examination of our own beliefs and expectations for God. Why does God allow innocent infants to die in their cots? It leads us to reflect on our own expectations of our God and, through this, to an examination of our relationship with our God.
So, how could God let this happen to Fr Richard’s sister? In the end Fr Richard realised that when he sat in the hospital crying, with his mother, at his sister’s bed, God was there weeping beside them. God is beside all of us in the terrible and tough times. Are we too busy and self-absorbed to notice the ‘God’ moments, the times of grace and encounter? We certainly will miss them if we are not open to recognising them.
I see God moments regularly at school. The way the students treat each other, the care for those less able, and the interactions with Staff. I wish all good luck on their search.
Rain, Rain Go Away!
The weather has been a force to deal with at times. I congratulate the Staff and students on their resilience in the face of the week of rain we just had. Some subjects had their lessons affected and the student’s regular movement spaces around the school were changed. Normal games at recess and lunch were not viable and energy built up.
Of course, we cannot control the weather, and we also cannot let the weather control us. School went on and the learning continued and again I recognize the efforts of Staff and students to maintain learning progress.
World Day Of Prayer For Creation – 1 September
Have you ever travelled to a big city, and stopped, and noticed how much concrete, glass and metal surrounds us there? Soon the sense of the lack of nature enters your thinking. Modern cities have many more green spaces than some of the older ones to counter this.
In his 2023 message for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on 1 September, Pope Francis called us to a change of heart and “the renewal of our relationship with creation so that we no longer see it as an object to be exploited but cherish it instead as a sacred gift from our Creator.” Pope Francis encouraged us to avoid waste and to promote practices that promote care for our environment and the earth’s resources for future generations.
At Corpus Christi we have a proud tradition of environmental action. Currently our environmental group are working on a number of initiatives to improve our school environment.
God bless

Get Involved - It is Never Too Late
At Corpus Christi High School, we believe that high school is a time for personal growth, exploration, and connection. A vital part of this journey is getting involved in extracurricular activities—where students can meet new people, discover new interests, and build lasting friendships.
With so many exciting opportunities available, we want to remind both parents and students of the wide variety of clubs and groups that are waiting for them this term. By participating in these activities, students can step out of their comfort zones, learn new skills, and engage in the vibrant school community.
These include:
CCN (Corpus Christi Network) |
Chess Club |
Corpus Christi Social Justice Club / Youth Ministry |
Drawing Club |
CCCHS Dance Ensemble |
Musical Theatre Ensemble |
Myimbarr Bush Tucker Garden Group |
Public Speaking & Debating |
Resume Writing Workshop |
Tournament of Minds |
Vocal Ensemble |
Yabun Gali Dance Group |
Study Club |
Why Get Involved?
Participating in extracurricular activities offers students a wide range of benefits, including improved academic performance, enhanced social skills, and the opportunity to explore new interests. It is also an excellent way for students to build self-confidence, work as part of a team, and create lasting memories during their time at school.
We encourage all students to take full advantage of these opportunities. Whether they are looking to make new friends, develop a hidden talent, or simply try something new, the experiences they gain will be invaluable in shaping their high school journey. It is not too late.
If you are interested in pursuing one of these, please ask a staff member who will support you with the information you require.

On Sunday 7th September, the world will witness a truly special moment in the life of the Church — the canonisation of two young saints: Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. In this Jubilee Year of Hope, these young men shine brightly as examples of how ordinary lives, when lived with faith and love, can make an extraordinary difference.
Recently, I had a conversation with a young man who told me he wanted to be an “influencer” after school. Thanks to my teenage children, I now know that an influencer is someone with a large online following, admired for their knowledge, creativity, or authenticity. Yet so often, influencers chase fame, wealth, and power — goals that don’t always align with Gospel values.
That’s why Blessed Carlo Acutis has captured the imagination of so many. Dubbed “God’s Influencer”, Carlo will become the Church’s first millennial saint. A teenager who loved computers, photography, and video games, Carlo used his talents to share the message of Christ with the world. In fact, he will be recognised as the patron saint of the internet.
What makes Carlo’s story even more remarkable is that his parents were not particularly religious. His mother had only been inside a church three times before Carlo’s birth. Instead, it was his Polish nanny, Beata, who introduced him to prayer and faith — much like the vital work of our SRE Catechists today. At just seven years old, Carlo received his First Holy Communion and told his mother: “To be united to Jesus: this is my life plan.”
From then on, Carlo attended daily Mass, received Reconciliation regularly, and encouraged his family to do the same. As one priest remarked, “It was not his parents bringing him to Mass — it was Carlo who convinced them to come.”
Carlo combined his deep love for the Eucharist with his skills in technology, creating a website to catalogue Eucharistic miracles so that others could see that Jesus is truly present at every Mass. His famous saying captures his faith beautifully:
“People who place themselves before the sun get a tan; people who place themselves before the Eucharist become saints.”
Carlo’s online and personal witness led many to conversion, including his family’s Hindu au pair, who was moved by his kindness and care for the poor. From a young age, Carlo gave food, clothing, and sleeping bags to the homeless, showing that his love for Jesus was always expressed in love for others.
Tragically, at just 15 years of age, Carlo was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. He offered his suffering for the Church and for the Pope, and died peacefully in 2006. At his request, he was buried in Assisi — home of his hero, St Francis.
Now, nearly 20 years later, the young man known as God’s Influencer will be canonised a saint, showing us that holiness is possible for everyone, even in today’s digital world.
Quick Facts about Carlo:
- Died at age 15 in 2006.
- Created a website to share Eucharistic miracles around the world.
- Attended daily Mass and encouraged others to do the same.
- Loved video games but limited himself to under 2 hours per week.
- He was known for standing up for bullied classmates and including those who were left out.
- From a young age, he gave food and essentials to the poor and homeless.
- His witness of faith inspired the conversion of his family and others.
As we celebrate his canonisation alongside Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, may Carlo inspire us all to use our gifts, online and offline, to share God’s love with the world.

Celebrating the Canonisation of Carlo Acutis
This September, we’ll be marking a special moment in the life of the Church — the canonisation of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who will be recognised as the first millennial saint. In celebration, our school will host an afternoon event dedicated to Carlo’s life, faith, and example. Students will have the chance to revel in the “millennial” side of his story, discovering how his love for God, technology, and service continues to inspire young people today.
Keep an eye on Compass for more details — you won’t want to miss it!
Year 8 Emmaus Walk
Year 8 will participate in the Emmaus Walk, a Pastoral and Spiritual Formation Programme, which takes on the coastal track between Minnamurra and Surf Beach, Kiama. The Emmaus Walk is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a prayer at Minnamurra. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers. The students will participate in four spiritual activities on the day. Through the formational process, each student’s individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed.
The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and encourage students to demonstrate Christian actions in their homes, churches and communities. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
Students will be informed about this more in their Catholic Studies Lessons.

Year 11 End of Year Exams
A reminder that Year 11 end-of-year exams will be held from 8 September to 19 September (Week 8–9). Attached is the full timetable, which includes all essential details regarding dates, times, and exam procedures. Please take some time to review it with your young person to help them plan their study and attendance.
We encourage you to support them in organising their study schedule and maintaining focus during this important time. If additional assistance is needed, please don’t hesitate to contact their Learning Advisors. We wish all our Year 11 students the very best for their exams.
A big thank you to all the students who participated in the 2025 PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) on Wednesday, 20 August. We are proud of the way students approached the tasks and gave it their best effort. Student participation not only supports our school but also contributes to important global research on how young people apply their learning in real-world situations.
Year 8 Prepares for Stage 5 Elective Selections
Our Year 8 students will soon be making their elective choices for Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10). This is a wonderful opportunity for students to select courses that align with their passions and interests, building a strong foundation for their senior school studies.
The selection process will take place in Week 7.
An information guide has been sent to all Year 8 families with detailed course descriptions and selection instructions. We have updated our process this year to provide students with greater choice, so we encourage all parents to review the guide carefully, even if they have been through this process before. Please take the time to discuss the options with your child to help them make the best choices for their learning journey.
Book Orders: We’re Going Back to Basics
Over the past two years, we have trialled an online system for ordering students’ learning resources using MyConnect2. While it offered some benefits, feedback from parents, students, and staff showed that our previous process works better for our community.
From next year, the school will purchase resources on your behalf, and the cost will be included in your school fees. This approach offers:
- Easier access for all families
- Better value for money
- Reliable supply and delivery
Thank you for your support and feedback. It has been invaluable in guiding this decision.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Learning Advisor/Leader of Sport
This term, Year 10 Child Studies students have been completing a unit called “Children and Culture”. This week students have been focusing on Aboriginal culture, with a special focus on the Dharawal People, the Traditional Custodians of our local area.
To deepen students' understanding, they completed a research task on Dharawal history and traditions. We were then incredibly fortunate to have the expertise of Mrs. West, who shared her knowledge and guided the class through a series of hands-on activities that are perfect for a child care setting. Students learned to create their own dreaming stones and practiced weaving. Creating these dreaming stones and practicing weaving not only teach fine motor skills but also help children connect with Aboriginal culture.
A huge thank you to Mrs. West for generously sharing her time and knowledge with our class. Her insights have been invaluable and have provided our students with practical, engaging ways to celebrate and teach Aboriginal culture in the future.

Traffic Movement, Parking and Afternoon Student Pick-up
Pick-up and drop-off of students is not to take place in adjoining premises, as this can be a safety concern. Local businesses are understandably not happy with parents doing this.
A reminder to parents about double-parking and blocking traffic flow before and after school. This INCLUDES ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. Cars are to keep moving through the kiss and drop area. If there are no spots available. Please do not stop and block the traffic flow.
Please be aware that hefty fines apply for these offences and consideration of the local businesses and the safety of students is paramount.
Senior students and families are reminded to follow the rules when parking near and around the school grounds and to be considerate of the neighbours.
Senior students are reminded that there is no parking on the school grounds.
Please allow enough time to find a parking spot before arriving at school.

If you require your child to leave early for a planned appointment or other reason this should be entered in Compass before the departure day and time. If there is a note in Compass the student can come down and sign out through the office.
If you are unable to access Compass a parent or nominated emergency contact will need to come in and sign your child out.
Unwell Students
Information for Illness/Misadventure for assessments or tasks is in your child's Compass.
Student ID Cards
Please remind your child to have their Student ID Card at school everyday.

Students Exiting the School in the Afternoon
Due to safety concerns, students are not to exit the school grounds in the afternoon through the glass foyer. All students are required to use the walking path around to the drop-off bay or Moore Street exit. The only exceptions are any disabled students or students with an injury.
Students are not permitted to walk through the staff carpark exit area due to safety concern.
Students Returning to School with an Injury
A reminder to families that if your child is returning to school with an injury you need to contact the school before their return to arrange a return to school with injury meeting. This will enable us to put any measures in place to assist with this return.
Students who are required to use the lift must have a medical reentry meeting and can only use the lift once a 'Lift License' has been issued to them.
