A Tribute to Pope Francis

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” – Matthew 5:9

It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. A spiritual father to over a billion Catholics around the world, Pope Francis led the Church with humility, compassion, and courage.

A Brief Outline of His Life

  • Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  • Ordained a Jesuit priest in 1969 and became Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998.

  • Created a cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II.

  • Elected Pope on 13 March 2013, becoming the first Jesuit Pope, the first from the Americas, and the first to take the name Francis—after St Francis of Assisi, a symbol of peace and care for the poor.

  • Known for his deep concern for the marginalised, care for the environment (Laudato Si’), and his efforts to reform the Church with a focus on mercy and inclusion.

Pope Francis will be remembered for his accessible and heartfelt teachings, his tireless work for justice and peace, and his unwavering call to “go to the peripheries” reaching out to those most forgotten by the world.

A Prayer in Remembrance

Loving God,
We give thanks for the life, leadership, and witness of Pope Francis.
In his simplicity and strength, he taught us to see Christ in the poor, to care for creation, and to walk humbly with our God.
May he now rest in the embrace of Your eternal love.
May his legacy continue to inspire us to be people of mercy, hope, and courage.
Grant comfort to all who mourn, and raise up leaders who will continue to shepherd Your people with wisdom and grace.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal Term 2 Initiative

As followers of Christ, we are challenged to make a preferential option for the poor as it is important to create conditions for marginalised voices to be heard, to defend the defenceless, and to assess lifestyles, policies and social institutions in terms of their impact on the poor. The St Vincent de Paul Society is committed to actively and passionately speaking out against the causes of poverty and inequality on behalf of the people we serve. Please watch the video attached on the excellent work St Vincent de Paul does in the community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeVC8I65wSs

In term two each House is asked to donate items to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.

  • Items that the students from Ingham, Chisholm, Davis and Deane could bring in include:  Beanies, Scarves, Socks, Gloves or Blankets and Jumpers.
  • Senior students are to donate hygiene items for the Social Justice Committee to organise hygiene packs.

Students are to place their items for the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal in their learning circle baskets.

Thank you for supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
