Wishing all Families a Safe and Happy Holiday
I hope that all families have a peaceful and restful holiday break filled with family time. I will be travelling north to see my daughter and her new baby. A time that I will cherish. Perhaps the holiday period would be a good time for students to make a call to an Aunty or Uncle or Grandparents that you will not be able to visit. A call just to say hello, that you care, and show connection. It could make a difference.
The Week That We Call Holy - Holy Week 2025
As we move to the holiday period we move to the closure of our Lenten time. This weekend we commence Holy Week with Palm Sunday (also called Passion Sunday) taking place on Sunday 13April. This is when Jesus rides triumphantly into Jerusalem to the adulation of the crowds.
So how is Holy Week different for you? How will you make this single week, out of the fifty-two in the year, special or holy? Has it been difficult to focus on your faith in this world after the coronavirus; the US election and outcomes; the upcoming Australian election?
There is still time to start, it is never too late. The Lenten period was a time of preparation for the events of the Easter weekend.
The heart of Easter commences on Holy Thursday – the start of the Easter Triduum. Three 24 hour periods remembering the suffering, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
As Catholics we are called to attend our Parishes on these very important days.
Holy Thursday is the Mass of the Lords Supper, while Good Friday is the veneration of the Cross (where we vividly recall the journey of Jesus to the cross and then his eventual death).
While the Easter Vigil on Saturday is the main celebration of the period and lasts a little longer and starts later than the usual Saturday mass. It was here that the faithful waited outside the tomb of Jesus. The Jewish Sabbath commenced at sunset on Friday to an hour after sunset the following day, and the body of Jesus was not fully prepared for burial – so they waited during Saturday, praying and mourning.
Finally, we reach Easter Sunday, where Jesus rises and provides hope for the world.
The purpose of the three days is not to re-enact historical events, but rather to engage the paschal mystery as it is being celebrated in the midst of those gathered. The power of this cannot be underestimated.
I wish all families a safe and happy Easter break filled with the promise of hope and encourage all to make the effort to connect with this most powerful faith filled time of our Church. Of course, there will be chocolate eggs and easter buns, but like the commercialization of Christmas, we sometimes lose sight of the true event.
Corpus Christi Does Not Have a Year 10 Formal
Each year every school has a Formal – for the graduating year group. That is Year 12. In past years many schools had a Dinner Dance for Year 10 as that was another exit point for students. The exit points of today are the completion of Year 11 or Year 12 or accessing apprenticeships or the workforce.
There is currently advertising circulating a Corpus Christi Year 10 Formal. This is NOT a school sanctioned event and NO Staff will be present to supervise. This event may go ahead and I wish a wonderful night for all who attend but there is no legal obligation to the school and the event is totally under the responsibility of the parents/ adults booking the venue.
God bless
Mr Wayne Marshall
Principal
At Corpus Christi, we are continuously striving to enhance our students' teaching and learning experiences. Our recent Staff Professional Learning Day focused on an innovative approach we are proud to integrate into our classrooms: Amy Berry's Engagement Continuum. This framework offers an insightful way to foster deeper student engagement and empower learners in their academic journey at our school.
Why is Engagement Important?
Engagement is at the heart of effective learning. Research shows that when students are engaged, they are more likely to retain information, be motivated to learn, and develop a genuine love of learning. It is not just about attending class, it’s about being mentally and emotionally involved in the educational process.
What is the Engagement Continuum?
Amy Berry's Engagement Continuum is a dynamic tool designed to measure and improve student engagement across different levels. The continuum ranges from passive engagement, where students are merely present, to active engagement, where learners are fully involved in their learning process.
This model recognizes that students can be at different stages of engagement at different times and helps teachers to develop strategies that move students along this continuum toward higher levels of involvement and deeper learning.
Practical Applications in the Classroom
At Corpus Christi our teachers are using the Engagement Continuum to refine their teaching practices. Additionally, through regular reflection and feedback, teachers are empowered to monitor each student's progress along the continuum, adjusting their teaching to ensure that all students are continuously moving toward driving their learning.
The Benefits of Amy Berry’s Engagement Continuum
- Differentiated Learning: The continuum allows teachers to differentiate instruction based on the level of engagement, ensuring that all students are supported in their individual learning needs.
- Increased Student Motivation: By recognizing where students are in their engagement journey, teachers can create learning experiences that are both challenging and rewarding, fostering a greater sense of motivation.
- Holistic Development: As students progress along the continuum, they not only grow academically but also develop important life skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently.
By recognising the varying levels of student engagement and implementing targeted strategies, we are continuing to create a learning environment that nurtures curiosity, promotes academic growth, and prepares our students to be lifelong learners. As we continue to embrace this framework, we look forward to seeing how it will enhance our students’ learning experiences, empowering them to take ownership of their education and succeed in all that they do.

Year 7 Explore What It Means to Be Catholic
As part of their first topic in Religious Education, our Year 7 students have been exploring the question “What does it mean to be Catholic?” This foundational unit encouraged students to reflect on the key beliefs, practices, and symbols that shape Catholic identity and tradition.
To mark the end of the unit, students were given the opportunity to express their learning creatively by painting wooden crosses. These crosses are not only a reflection of their understanding but also a symbol of their place in our faith community. Each cross has been thoughtfully decorated and will now be displayed in classrooms across the school as a sign of faith, welcome, and unity.
It has been wonderful to witness the enthusiasm and thoughtfulness our newest students have brought to their learning. Their work reminds us all of the richness of our Catholic tradition and the importance of living out our faith in meaningful and visible ways.
We are proud of Year 7 for their efforts and look forward to seeing how they continue to grow in faith, knowledge, and community.
Corpus Christi Students Represent School at Bishop’s Mass
Last week, six of our students had the privilege of representing Corpus Christi at the annual Bishop’s Mass, a special celebration that brings together schools from across the Diocese in a spirit of faith, unity, and mission.
We would like to sincerely thank Elijah Maounis, Anabelle Maounis, Noah Coopes, Emilie Hermann, Karolyn Klemate, and Mia Allard for their participation and reverent presence throughout the liturgy. Whether through reading, presenting the offertory, or simply being part of the gathered community, these students represented our school with pride, respect, and faith.
The Bishop’s Mass is a powerful reminder of our shared Catholic identity and the strength of our community when we come together in prayer and purpose. We are proud of these students for their involvement and thank them for their leadership and witness.
Year 8 Students Attend Bishop’s Mass with Stella Maris and Nazareth Primary Schools
Recently, a group of our Year 8 students had the opportunity to attend the Bishop’s Mass, joining students and staff from Stella Maris and Nazareth Schools for this special diocesan celebration.
The Mass was a beautiful expression of our shared faith and a reminder of the wider Catholic community we belong to. Our students participated reverently and represented Corpus Christi with great respect and enthusiasm. They were particularly inspired by the Bishop’s message, which encouraged young people to live out their faith through everyday actions of kindness, courage, and presence.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 8 students to come together with peers from other schools, connect through prayer, and deepen their understanding of what it means to be part of the Catholic Church today.
We thank our staff for accompanying the students and Stella Maris and Nazareth for their warm welcome and shared spirit.
