As we move through this time of Lent we can easily forget our aim. To get closer to God through prayer, fasting and alms giving. The students, at various levels, have been involved in Mass, prayer, fundraising and I hope some fasting. And as written previously, Pope Francis has included a range of items to fast from – other than food; with the toughest for most being to fast from our phones. Easter this year falls in the holidays and many families will be travelling. I wish you safe travels and a wonderful time.
Like tens of millions of people around the world we are thankful for the improving health of Pope Francis. After weeks in hospital with assisted breathing and varying interpretations of his health and future, he is out of hospital and recovering.
If you have a child in the HSC year then you will know how difficult it can be in supporting your child. Below are some notes that I took from a parent who gave their wisdom about supporting their child through the HSC.
Tips for parents during Year 12 HSC year- from a previous parent
- Always offer the support of buying any resources they may need: pens, books, excel books, study books, essay writing books etc.
- Attend Career Expos with your child: They are a fabulous way of helping your child decide on their career path and they have many great free study lectures and talks on many of the HSC subjects.
- Take advantage of the HSC lectures that are held at public libraries: The study lectures are fabulous and cheap, around $10 - $15 each, they include many subjects and usually send head lecturers who are very involved in the HSC marking and exam structure. Book early to avoid disappointment. A great way to find out the structure and expectations of each subject, and to hear another point of view.
- Don't put any pressure on your child with career expectations: Your child should be the one who is responsible for their future career. It is essential that they are happy in their chosen career path in order for them to succeed, as they will be working for many years.
- Don't nag your children to study - ever !!!!!! They know what they have to do, and will usually do it, without you constantly saying "you should be studying". As the mother of a Dux, and another child who struggled in the HSC, I never ever told my children to study, and they both got into the course and university that they wanted to. My children said that they both valued this during Year 12. There will be enough pressure put on them from the school.
- Let them still have their hobbies and or sports, but not too many. This gives them enjoyment, friendships, happiness and aids in stress release.
- Visit a bookstore a few times during the year: They have lots of great HSC resources, and it is a silent motivator!!
- You don't need to take time off work during the HSC exam time, unless you want to; Just provide lots of healthy food, and a well-stocked pantry. You'll find that the children are coming and going all the time anyway or going to the library for study sessions.
- Finally, lots of prayers and positive support. Lovely little "I'm proud of you and all your efforts" notes, throughout the year will also do wonders!!
God bless

Principal
Imagine what it would be like if every student took pride in their school. Not just in the way it looks, but in the way it feels. Our school grounds, especially our playgrounds, are a reflection of who we are as a community. As Catholics, we are called to be good stewards of God’s creation, and this includes caring for the spaces where we gather, learn, and grow together.
Since the commencement of the school year there has been a gradual increase in the rubbish in our playground. Caring for our environment and taking pride in the space we share is a reflection of our core school value of respect. As a community our small actions add up. Each time we choose to take a moment to care for our environment, we send a message that says:
“I am part of something bigger than myself. I care about where I learn, where I spend my time, and the future of my school.”
Our school is a reflection of who each of us are as individuals. When we make an effort to care for our school we show that we value the space and the people within it. Collectively, we create a culture of respect, teamwork, and pride. And that culture has the ability to spread beyond just picking up rubbish - it can be mirrored in how students treat their peers.
Over the past fortnight we have formally reminded students of expectations in regards to physical contact with their peers. The Corpus Christi behaviour management policy emphasises our zero tolerance approach to any form of unsafe physical behaviour. This includes contact or aggressive play that causes or has the potential to cause injury or escalation such as physical intimidation, pushing, shoving, or tackling.
At Corpus Christi our emphasis is upon fostering positive, respectful relationships based on the example of Christ. Thank you for your support in ensuring your young person plays their part in building our school community.

Easter Egg Appeal
Each year the students at Corpus Christi are asked to bring in easter eggs to donate to the Wollongong Hospital Children’s Ward. Unlike most of our families at Corpus Christi who get to wake up on Easter morning and spend time celebrating with each other, some children are waking up in a hospital bed, some who have been there for more time than in their own homes. The joy and smiles on the faces of the children in the hospital when our students go to deliver the easter eggs donated by the students is something that could warm anyone's heart. This year we ask that once again you all find it in your hearts to share the happiness that chocolate can bring to those children who are struggling. Our Easter Egg Appeal will run from Week 5 to Week 9 and each Learning Circle Learning Advisor will collect the eggs during Learning Circle each morning.

Support Project Compassion – Every Donation Counts!
So far, our school community has raised $119 for Project Compassion, supporting Caritas Australia’s vital work with vulnerable communities. While this is a great start, we can do even more!
Every donation, no matter how small, helps provide essential resources like education, healthcare, and clean water to those in need. Let’s continue to show our compassion and generosity by giving what we can.
Together, we can make a real difference! Please donate to Project Compassion today.

Digital Processes Study
Study Title: Secondary School Students' Digital Practices: Towards a Holistic Understanding Across Contexts
During Term 2, the University of Wollongong will be conducting a research study at our school as part of PhD research. The study focuses on how Year 11 students use digital technologies to support their learning outside the classroom.
Data Collection
Phase 1:
- Teacher Interviews: The University of Wollongong Research team be interviewing a small number of teachers to discuss their experiences with digital technologies in education.
- Student Survey: All Year 11 students will be invited to complete a survey, which will take less than an hour. The survey will be sent to students via email and will occur at school.
Phase 2:
- Student Case Studies: The University of Wollongong Research team invite approximately 6 Year 11 students for detailed discussions. This will involve
- Two 45-minute interviews
- and the collection of data from their laptop. This is similar to web tracking, but it captures less detailed information and is designed to be less intrusive. It focuses on general usage patterns rather than specific browsing history. The tracker will record:
- URL of websites visited (landing page or homepage of the site listed)
- Time spent
- Date
The tracker will only be installed on the laptop participants use for studying. It works with the Chrome browser and does not collect data in incognito mode. While the tracker runs continuously, participants can review and delete any data they don’t want to share. We will show participants how to do this during the interview. If participants don’t want to use the tracker, we can discuss other options.
Students can choose to engage in both phases or only participate in the survey.
Risks: While we will not be asking questions designed to cause any distress, we recognise that digital technology use for learning can be a difficult subject and some participants may feel concern when discussing their use of technology.
Benefits: While there are no immediate benefits other than a small thank-you gift card for students who participate in the case studies, the research will contribute valuable insights to a relatively unexplored area and could help inform future educational policies.
Results: The findings will be published in a PhD thesis, journal articles and conference presentations. Your identity and the school’s identity will remain confidential.
The data from the study will also be compiled into a personalised anonymous report providing insights into students' digital practices at your school. This report can be used to help enhance digital literacy and refine digital education strategies.
Participation is voluntary, but we would greatly appreciate your support. Should you wish to opt out of participation in this research, please email the research team with your student's full name and homeroom class before <insert date>. This will not have any impact on their relationship with the school or the University of Wollongong.
An email with additional information will be sent to all Year 11 students. For any other information about the study, please contact the research team at scaouette@uow.edu.au.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
This study has been reviewed by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of Wollongong (2024/265). If you have any concerns or complaints about how the research is conducted, please contact a UOW Ethics Officer, +61 2 4239 2191 or email uow-humanethics@uow.edu.au.

Year 11 and year 12 visual arts students took the long bus trip up to the Art Gallery of NSW, which is right in the centre of Sydney to see Art Express. Art Express is an exhibition of exemplar student HSC artworks that shows across a variety of regional and urban locations. In 2023 over 9000 student’s submitted work in Visual Arts for the HSC with 0.5% selected for Artexpress. This exhibition shows the best works in the state and provides both inspiration and insight for students undertaking the course.
Corpus’ students had an interesting time discussing the works and seeing how other students had explored their ideas.
The group also got to see the exhibition by Coa Fei - My City is yours which was very interactive and fun.
All students found this excursion valuable, both as a source of ideas and inspiration, and as motivation to achieve at an excellent level.

Digital Literacy at Corpus Christi
I am excited to introduce myself as the new Digital Literacy Coach at Corpus Christi. As technology continues to evolve, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a growing part of students’ lives; both in their education and their future workplaces. Today’s students must develop the skills to critically engage with these technologies, ensuring they are responsible and ethical users.
Corpus Christi is committed to preparing students for this evolving landscape and has introduced the role of Digital Literacy Coach to guide both staff and students in navigating the opportunities and challenges of AI and digital tools.
What is Digital Literacy?
Digital literacy is the skill set underpinning one’s ability to use digital tools effectively, to critically evaluate online content, and engage ethically in digital spaces. This skill set includes understanding AI’s capabilities and limitations, protecting privacy, and upholding academic integrity.
Why is this Important?
In a time where misinformation spreads rapidly, and AI can generate convincing but flawed content, students must be equipped with the skills to think critically, verify sources, and use AI responsibly. By teaching digital literacy alongside academic integrity, students will gain an understanding of the importance of continuing to create their own work to authentically achieve their learning outcomes and work towards their long-term post-school goals.
Our Approach
Over 2025 and 2026, we will roll out a digital literacy and academic integrity curriculum explicitly taught to all students. This program will align with key national guidelines, including:
- NSW Education Generative AI Guidelines
- Australian Curriculum Digital Literacy Framework
- Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools
- Catholic Education Office’s Generative AI Interim Position Paper
I will also work closely with staff to align our teaching practices so they reflect these guidelines, and uphold the driving objectives and obligations outlined in the key documents.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, I encourage you to reach out. Your input is invaluable as we work together to support our students.

International Women’s Day Student Brunch
Thank you to Mrs Ellen Setter, Mackenzie Killmore, Jessica Pecoski, Caitlyn Roddy, and Ava Wells for representing Corpus Christi Catholic High School at the BlueScope International Women’s Day Brunch at the Industry World Visitor Centre last week. At this event guests had the unique opportunity to listen to local women share their diverse professional journeys, gaining valuable insights into the choices they have made throughout their careers. The discussions covered a wide array of topics, from balancing work and family commitments to navigating the challenges and triumphs within their respective industries. By engaging with these stories, the students were not only inspired by the personal experiences of these women but also empowered to reflect critically on their own futures and the decisions they will face in both their personal and professional lives.

Corpus Christi Music 2025 Instrumental Program
We are very excited to be able to offer some amazing opportunities for students here at Corpus Christi, one of them being the Instrumental Program. We are actively seeking new students who would like to learn an instrument at school in 2025.
The lessons take place during class time on the day the tutor is at school (notified on the Compass timetable) and are rotated so students don’t miss the same lessons twice. They are 30 minutes in duration and take place in the music practice rooms. Students then return to their normal classes. Last year, (and continuing this year) lessons were held on a Tuesday however with many of the students returning for lessons this year, another day will more than likely open up.
We have amazing tutors here at Corpus Christi and there have had some major successes with past students. We have active musicians in a number of Aria Nominated bands including award winners, many students have gone on to be involved in the Entertainment fields of recording, film and television composing, concert and festival organisation and studio musicians. In 2023, four of our Yr 12 students were awarded a Band 6 for their HSC music performances including one who received an Encore nomination for outstanding HSC presentations. Many of these students started learning their instruments with the tutors in the Instrumental Program and it’s wonderful to celebrate their successes.
Fees for the instrumental Program are $40 for a private, 30 minute lesson paid directly to the tutor. This is a very reasonable rate and much lower than many private tutors and the Conservatorium of Music are charging.
For more information on learning DRUMS, GUITAR (Electric and Acoustic) and BASS please drop me an email at lappanj01@dow.catholic.edu.au and I will organise an introduction to the tutor and send an EOI form.
